FQM IN CRACKDOWN ON JOB SCAMS
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has intensified its clampdown on job scams to help prospective employees avoid extortion by fake job agents.
The mining giant is concerned with the number of people swindled out of their hard-earned money over a promise of employment, by criminals pretending to represent the company’s operations at Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi and Sentinel Mine in Kalumbila.
Kansanshi Mining General Manager Anthony Mukutuma said “We have noted with great concern the number of people being tricked into paying for a promise of a job interview at our facilities.”
“I would like to put this on record that at no point will a legitimate employee of First Quantum Minerals ask you to pay any sum of money for a job, a job interview or anything concerning an application for employment. There are no processing fees or interview fees at FQM,” said Mr Mukutuma.
He explained that FQM had zero-tolerance for corruption and works with authorities including law enforcement to bring perpetrators to book.
Mr Mukutuma added that the company was committed to giving every suitably qualified job seeker an equal opportunity to compete for any vacancy that may arise, and would not allow any individual to disadvantage other applicants by paying their way into a position.
“We have introduced measures such as increased public awareness programmes and a toll-free anonymous hotline (0212 615844) for victims or witnesses to report suspicious activity in our recruitment process.”
“We would like to call upon the public to work with FQM and help us weed out corruption from our communities by reporting such crimes to relevant authorities. It is only by working together that we can effectively identify and bring these criminals to justice,” the General Manager explained.
He further urged job seekers to use proper channels when applying for a job to avoid falling prey to criminals. He said the company had a dedicated online job portal where all vacancies and application procedures are listed at https://careers.first-quantum.com/
