Ivan Kalonda Appointed General Manager of Human Resources at Tenke Fungurume Mining
In 2019, when CMOC took over the reins at Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM), the spotlight shifted to its employees. Among them was Ivan Kalonda, who would later ascend to the role of General Manager of Human Resources, earning the prestigious “Outstanding Employee and CMOC Inspirational Role Model 2023” award.
Kalonda’s rise to prominence began with a simple mantra: “Do your job well because there is always someone watching you.” Under the leadership of Jun Zhou, then General Manager, Kalonda’s dedication and consistency caught the CEO’s attention. A pivotal encounter in Zhou’s office set the stage for Kalonda’s future trajectory.
Fast forward to 2022, and Kalonda’s dedication bore fruit as he was appointed Head of Human Resources at TFM, entrusted with overseeing a diverse workforce of over 20,000 individuals. His mission? To empower employees, foster cultural integration, and ensure social cohesion amidst challenges.
Reflecting on his journey, Kalonda credits TFM as his “school” of management and multiculturalism. His recent trip to China to receive the CMOC-Inspired Model Outstanding Employee Award provided him with new insights, notably the resilience symbolized by the Great Wall.
For Kalonda, observation has become second nature, a crucial skill for an HR manager tasked with unlocking each person’s potential. As he continues to lead at TFM, his story serves as a testament to the power of dedication, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence.
