Kamoto Copper Company materializes its commitments for the benefit of the communities affected by its operations

The Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) signed its specifications with the communities affected by its operations. The ceremony took place this Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Kolwezi, in the reception hall of the Kampi ya Boma hotel in the presence of representatives of these communities. The representative of the Provincial Minister of Mines, the Mayor of the city of Kolwezi, the Mayors and the sector chief of Luilu, also took part in this ceremony.

In addition to the various taxes and royalties paid by this company, the endowment of the fund with 0.3% of its income as well as the voluntary financing of social projects, the mining company KCC SA has allocated funding of Forty Million Twenty-Five thousand four- one hundred Thirty-eight US dollars, the overall cost of projects formerly expressed by the various Local Development Committees (CLD) in the presence of local civil society during the process of identifying priority needs. These projects will be carried out for a period of five years in the three entities of the province of Lualaba which are in particular the sector of Luilu in the territory of Mutshatsha and the two communes in the city of Kolwezi namely, Manika and Dilala.

“These projects will be carried out in various fields that affect the development of the local community, including infrastructure (construction of schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, etc.), agriculture, crafts, income-generating activities “, suggested Joseph Sauta, head of the design office in charge of facilitating the development of the specifications. 

The Commercial Director ai of KCC SA, Ndomba Tshiendela, representative of the General Manager at this ceremony, thanked the communities for their involvement in the successful outcome of this specification process.

“The specifications that we are signing today mark a continuity in our approach to community participation and consultation, which in the past was manifested through the work of the Focus Groups carried out in our various communities. Today with the strengthening of legal provisions, KCC SA is more committed to working for development according to the aspirations and needs expressed, “he said Ndomba Tshiendela.

The representatives of the communities concerned by these specifications all thanked the KCC company for its commitment to the development of the local community.

Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, surface mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest reserves of copper and cobalt in the world.
