Mining Indaba 2026: Stronger together, Progress through partnerships
Mining Indaba 2026 Returns to Cape Town, Driving Partnerships, Investment and Africa’s Mining Future
Mining Indaba 2026 returns to Cape Town from 9–12 February, bringing together the full African and global mining ecosystem at a pivotal moment for the industry.
With governments, investors, mining companies, communities, and downstream buyers under one roof, the event aims to accelerate collaboration and unlock practical solutions for Africa’s long-term growth.
According to Laura Nicholson, Product Director for Mining Indaba, momentum for the 2026 edition is already unprecedented. More than 70% of exhibition space sold within weeks of Mining Indaba 2025 closing, signalling strong confidence in the platform and sustained demand from across the value chain.
“Delegates return because Mining Indaba consistently delivers value,” Nicholson says. “From deal-making in the Investment Village to an expanded Ministerial Symposium and Partnership Spotlights, we create the space for solution-focused conversations between ministers, CEOs, investors, and communities.”
A Transformative 2025 Edition
Mining Indaba 2025 marked a turning point for the event. It convened 58 ministers, 1,400 government officials, 625 speakers, and more than 10,500 delegates from 122 countries, reinforcing its position as the world’s leading mining investment conference.
The programme struck a careful balance between policy, innovation, investment, and community impact under the theme “Future-Proofing African Mining, Today.” Delegates praised the emphasis on actionable insights, inclusive dialogue, and high-impact networking.
Investor engagement was particularly strong. Matchmaking sessions were oversubscribed, while the Investment Village facilitated new partnerships and capital flows into African projects.
Inclusion, Youth and Downstream Integration
Diversity and inclusion were central to the 2025 agenda. Indigenous and community voices were meaningfully integrated, and women accounted for around 40% of speakers.
Representation was further strengthened through the Women in Mining Lounge and partnerships with WIMSA and AWIMA.
Future leadership also took centre stage. Youth and PhD voices were incorporated through the Young Leaders Programme and university partnerships, ensuring the next generation of mining professionals had a seat at the table.
Downstream buyer participation more than doubled compared with 2024, linking African mining directly to battery manufacturing, automotive production, and renewable energy value chains. CEO panels attracted high engagement, reaffirming Mining Indaba as a global thought leadership platform.
What’s New for Mining Indaba 2026
Under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships,” Mining Indaba 2026 will expand its focus on collaboration, local beneficiation, and long-term value creation.
Key features include:
A Critical Minerals Programme, examining Africa’s strategic role in the global energy transition, supported by the Critical Minerals Committee and the DMPR
Partnership Spotlights, enabling candid, solution-driven dialogues between ministers and CEOs
A Downstream Buyers Programme, connecting mining with automotive, aerospace, chemical, and renewable sectors to drive industrialisation
New and enhanced platforms will also debut:
The Pitstop Networking Space, a high-energy hub for informal deal-making
Industry Intel, featuring interactive theatres and data-driven roundtables
The Junior Mining Showcase, spotlighting Africa’s next generation of projects and investment opportunities
A Technology Showcase, where global innovators demonstrate scalable solutions for African mining
CEO participation will expand further, with confirmed leaders from Harmony, Exxaro, Valterra, and Thungela, while community engagement will be strengthened through dedicated programming, cultural heritage initiatives, and legacy development.
A Defining Moment for African Mining
Sustainability will remain embedded across every programme rather than treated as a standalone theme. The 2026 agenda reflects a broader reality: Africa is no longer just a supplier of raw materials. The continent holds the keys to global decarbonisation, industrialisation, and energy security.
As resource nationalism, new trade blocs, and geopolitical tensions reshape supply chains, Mining Indaba 2026 will be the platform where Africa asserts itself as a strategic partner, not a passive participant.
“I want MI26 to be remembered as the year African mining set a new course,” Nicholson says. “Where collaboration replaced silos, youth voices reshaped the conversation, and technology and sustainability became the headline—not the footnote.”
With its unmatched convening power, Mining Indaba 2026 will once again bring every stakeholder into one room to shape the future of African mining—boldly, collectively, and with purpose.
