Mopani Copper Mines Introduces Advanced Water Purification System for Miners

Mopani Copper Mines Launches Water Purification System to Provide Safe Drinking Water Underground

Mopani Copper Mines Plc has launched the first phase of its Water Purification System, ensuring miners have reliable access to clean, safe drinking water underground.

The system features PXD glass medium filters, water tanks, and automated chlorinators for effective purification.

Water flows through a 1,000-litre tank, passes through the filters, and is stored in a 10,000-litre tank for optimal treatment and storage.

“This water is treated first at our main treatment plant and then further purified through this system,” explained Nkana Engineering Manager Marvin Mwansa at the launch.

He added, “We have conducted thorough tests through our ISO-certified Analytical Services Laboratories and the Public Health system to ensure the water meets all drinking standards. It is safe and clean.”

Phase Two of the project will focus on installing additional vessels and equipment underground, allowing miners to access potable water directly at their workstations, ensuring a sustainable supply of safe drinking water.

This initiative is part of Mopani’s TukaChimfya Pamo (“Together We Shall Conquer”) culture program, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee welfare, health, and safety.
