PRESIDENT FÉLIX TSHISEKEDI OFFICIALLY SWORN IN
On Saturday January 20th 2024, President Félix Tshisekedi officially took office for a second five-year term at the head of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He was sworn in before the Constitutional Court during a solemn public and mobile session held at the Stadium of the Martyrs of Pentecost.
After the ecumenical prayer, the Head of State swore before God and the nation, among other things, “to observe and defend the Constitution and the laws of the Republic, to maintain its independence and the integrity of its territory, to safeguard national unity and to be guided only by the general interest and respect for the rights of the human person.”
At the end of his oath, President Tshisekedi received from the President of the High Court the symbols of power, but also that of traditional power by customary authority.
In the inaugural speech of his second term, the Head of State said he was aware of the expectations of the people and reassured that he was aware of the magnitude of the task that awaited him.
The Head of State recalled his 6 major commitments of his new five-year term: more jobs, more purchasing power, more security for all, a more diversified and competitive economy, more access to basic services and more efficient public services.
“Now we need to transform the achievements we have achieved over the next five years and complete the advent of a more united, secure and prosperous Congo,” he said.
“I pledge to use everything in my power to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated and that the actions necessary for the advancement of our country are promptly taken,” he added. According to him, “today, a new era has been born!”
This investiture ceremony took place in front of more than 80,000 Congolese and about thirty foreign delegations, including about twenty led by Heads of State or governments. It ended with a parade of the Defence and Security Forces.
