President Tshisekedi Meets British Minister to Discuss Eastern DRC Security
President Félix Tshisekedi met on Wednesday at the African Union City with a British delegation led by Richard Henry Ronald Benyon, Britain’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Environment and Climate.
The security crisis in the east of the country was among the topics discussed. “We want to help the DRC find solutions to this terrible situation. We will use all channels of communication to focus on peace in the DRC,” Lord Benyon said.
In addition, Lord Benyon reiterated the UK’s commitment to creating a mutually beneficial partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo. He noted the crucial role that Congo’s essential natural resources play in the development of a sustainable economy.
At the second Forum on Trade and Investment in West and Central Africa, held from 17 to 18 October 2023 in London (Great Britain), British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the DRC is effectively contributing to the global transition to net zero, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as close to zero.
The High Representative of the Head of State, Professor Serge Tshibangu and the Envoy of the President of the Republic in charge of the new climate economy, Mrs. Stéphanie Mbombo, took part in this meeting.
