Railway Expansion Enhances Trade and Cooperation Between Angola and Zambia
The expansion of the railway line from Munhango to Luau, including sections of Marco 25 to the commune of Lumbala Caquengue in Moxico, holds the promise of bolstering trade and investment between Angola and Zambia.
These sentiments were expressed by the Governor of the Angolan province of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, during the 1st Forum for Regional Cooperation and Cultural Exchange between the provinces of Moxico and Northwest Zambia, which commenced in Luena.
During the forum, Robert Lihefu, the Minister of the Zambian province, emphasized the need for support infrastructures along the borders of the two provinces to foster rapid economic development.
The expansion of railway sections, as highlighted by Governor Muangala, will pave the way for the construction of roads to enhance connectivity on these routes.
This initiative aligns with Angola’s institutional policy, aiming to create an attractive business environment for investment and enhance the competitiveness of companies.
Governor Muangala underscored these actions as a reflection of Angola’s commitment to bridging the gap with its neighboring country. This shared agenda of reforms and partnerships is enshrined in the decisions of the Joint Permanent Commission meetings.
The Minister of the Northwest province of Zambia, Robert Lihefu, stressed the importance of building road infrastructures through joint efforts. He also highlighted the significance of the Lobito corridor for the movement of people and goods, facilitating exports.
Lihefu further noted that the mineral transport project adopted between Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo can only become a reality with the involvement of the Benguela Railways.
He stated that if these three countries successfully implement the plan, they can ensure stability and promote economic, cultural, and tourist development.
