The Research and Development Center of the Geological Survey of the People’s Republic of China began, this Thursday, October 21, its online seminar on the development and management of mineral resources in the DRC. This seminar will continue until November 4, 2021. 

These virtual meetings have several objectives, namely: To present mainly the technology of aerial geophysical remote sensing, geochemical mapping, and the methods, techniques, and results obtained for the evaluation of the potential of mineral resources based on the geological background studies of China’s regional mineralization, explore methods and directions of cooperation in the field of geological studies on public welfare between the governments of China and Congo (DRC); To present the advanced mining, smelting and recovery technologies adopted by the Jinchuan Group, Huayou Cobalt and other companies in Congo (DRC), as well as their contributions to local communities and society,promote further cooperation in the field of mining development between China and Congo (DRC).

Speaking at this meeting, the Chinese ambassador in the DRC, ZHU Jing recalled the great role of China in the DRC.

“As the world’s second-largest economy, China became the DRC’s largest trading partner and main source of investment many years ago. Driven by China’s massive investments and exploitations, the DRC has become a very important exporter of energy and strategic resources in the world and the advantages in the abundant resources of the DRC are gradually transformed into that of development. showcased mutual benefits and achieved mutually beneficial results.The Chinese side will continue to work with the Congolese side to implement the consensus reached by the two Heads of State and will seize the opportunity of the joint construction of “the Belt and the Road,” ZHU Jing said.

In addition, Mr. CHEN Runyun, vice-president of the AIBO (Academy for International Business Officials) of the Ministry of Commerce of China, spoke of new prospects for Sino-Congolese cooperation.

“We intend to strengthen Sino-Congolese cooperation and invest more with efficient technologies. China and the DRC will sign new cooperation in several areas; economy, infrastructure, trade … The prospects for cooperation are broad because Chinese companies are contributing not only capital and technologies but they also bring development. They have invested in several projects. It should be known that the investment of China in the DRC has exceeded 10 billion USD “, he said in substance.

He also hinted that academic and technical training will be organized in China, after Covid, to strengthen the capacities of Congolese citizens in order to promote the development of the DRC.

In addition, the adviser of the Congolese embassy in Beijing dwelled positively on Sino-Congolese relations.

“The friendship between the DRC and China continues to produce concrete results. The results of this seminar must be visible through the economic progress of our country. We believe in the potential of cooperation with China,” he said. said. 

For his part, the representative of the Minister of Mines, spoke of the expectations of the DRC for the control of these minerals, through this seminar.

“The DRC has more than 100 types of minerals but there are only 29 minerals that are known. We must organize a geological campaign of minerals from the DRC. What we intend to do thanks to cooperation with China. The DRC is also waiting. of its partner China to boost the planting of our mineral processing entities. This seminar, we hope, will produce the expected results, “he said.

Note that the Research and Development Center of the Geological Survey of China was officially established in 2002. It is a public institution directly under the Geological Survey of China, which is responsible for the direction of work, development strategy, research. deployment of geological and mineral exploration, and the reception, storage and service of national geological data, as well as the construction of information for geological surveys and business support work related to large special geological projects. The sign “National Geological Library” has been added. It has 249 employees, 6 executive offices and 15 business offices now. Since its creation, under the direction of the Ministry and the Bureau,it has successful results in the areas of strategic research, computerization construction, geological data services and special support. The center thus undertakes two main Chinese journals, “Geology of China” and “Geological Bulletin of China”.
