SkyPower Global and ZESCO Sign Landmark 1000 MW Power Purchase Agreement in Zambia

SkyPower Global, a renowned leader in large-scale solar energy solutions, and Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) have sealed a groundbreaking 1000 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

This significant milestone is a cornerstone of Zambia’s Integrated Renewable Energy Plan, aimed at substantially boosting the nation’s renewable energy capacity to foster sustainable growth.

Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema, hailed the Green Giant Zambia project as a vital component of the country’s renewable energy strategy, especially amidst the current climate-induced drought.

The initiative seeks to ramp up Zambia’s renewable capacity to meet present and future energy demands, supporting industrial productivity and the nation’s goal of surpassing 3 million metric tonnes of annual copper production.

During the ceremony, Michael Prest, Country Manager and Special Advisor to SkyPower, and Engineer Victor Benjamin Mapani, Managing Director of ZESCO, provided key insights.

Prest emphasized the transformative potential of the Green Giant Zambia initiative, leveraging advanced solar technology to reshape the country’s energy landscape and serve as a global model for renewable energy development.

Mapani echoed ZESCO’s commitment to positioning Zambia as a renewable energy hub in Africa, underscoring the project’s significance in securing clean energy for millions and fortifying the national grid with sustainable power.

Kerry Adler, Founder, President, and CEO of SkyPower Global, highlighted the multifaceted impact of the Green Giant Zambia project, transcending energy production to encompass job creation and infrastructure development, fostering long-term economic growth and environmental sustainability.

With SkyPower’s vast portfolio of over 10 GW of renewable energy projects worldwide, backed by the CIM Group, the Green Giant Zambia project is poised to provide electricity to approximately 4 million households, driving substantial socio-economic benefits while aligning with Zambia’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
