Solwezi MP Stafford Mulusa Leads Delegation to Review Kansanshi Mine’s Expansion

In a demonstration of commitment to progress and community engagement, Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi welcomed Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Stafford Mulusa, along with a delegation of civic leaders, including Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa and Town Clerk Stanley Mbewe, as well as all twelve district councillors.

The visit aimed to provide insights into the ongoing expansion projects at Kansanshi Mine and their impact on the local community.

Kyansenga Chitoshi, Corporate Affairs Manager at Kansanshi Mining, warmly greeted the delegation upon their arrival at the mine site.

They were then led by General Manager Anthony Mukutuma for a comprehensive briefing on the expansion projects, including key milestones, scope of work, and the tangible benefits accruing to the local community.

During the mine tour, Mr. Mukutuma highlighted the significant employment opportunities generated by the expansion projects, with approximately 800 individuals already employed during the construction phase and an expected additional 1,800 jobs as the S3 project progresses towards its completion in mid-2025.

MP Mulusa emphasized the importance of community support for the investment at Kansanshi, stressing the positive impact it brings through job creation and economic activities.

He commended Kansanshi’s tangible investments and visible presence on the ground, underscoring the need for genuine investment that translates into real benefits for the community.

Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa echoed these sentiments, urging the people of Solwezi to embrace the investment and take ownership of it.

He emphasized the importance of community involvement to ensure the sustainability of employment opportunities and economic growth.

As part of their commitment to environmental stewardship, Kansanshi Mine also initiated a tree planting campaign, aiming to plant over 30,000 trees this season.

The delegation had the opportunity to participate in this initiative, led by Kansanshi’s General Manager and Environmental Manager Arnold Malambo, further showcasing the mine’s dedication to sustainable practices and community development.

The visit to Kansanshi Mine highlighted the pivotal role of responsible mining practices in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and fostering positive relationships with local communities.

Through continued collaboration and engagement, Kansanshi Mine remains committed to contributing to the prosperity and well-being of Solwezi and its residents.
