“The DRC, a solution country” – Sama Lukonde at the 10th Summit of African, Caribbean & Pacific States in Angola

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde spoke on Friday December 9 at the 10th summit of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States in Luanda, Angola, where he represents the President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. This summit was centered on the theme: Three continents, three oceans, a common destiny: building a resilient and sustainable OACPS”.

Before Heads of State and Government members of this organization, the European Union and the United Nations, Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde not only condemned the acts of instability perpetrated by armed groups and terrorists in Africa in general but also and especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo where Rwanda supports the terrorists of the M23. Sama Lukonde did not go by the back of the spoon to once again loudly denounce this Rwandan aggression which is today at the root of a humanitarian crisis in this part of the country not without counting the massacres of the populations civilians, the latest case being that of Kishishe, which caused more than 200 deaths.

For the Prime Minister, the instability of Africa in general generates evils that prevent the continent from experiencing development and ensuring the well-being of its people. The Democratic Republic of Congo is therefore one of the countries hardest hit by this situation of instability.

we returned to the security issues that concern the Democratic Republic of Congo with this aggression by the M23 supported by Rwanda and the request to have support beyond the mechanisms in which we are already and which we congratulated and thanked. The mechanism we have here in Luanda and within the framework of the EAC in Kenya and also with the support of the Republic of Burundi which has the current chairmanship of the EAC. And so we sent the message of thanks on the solidarity already displayed by these countries but we want more. We also want at the level of the European Union and at the level of the United Nations, that there is this support displayed in the same way on this question of security in the East. Especially since we are facing a humanitarian situation which, today,

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the position of the DRC as a solution country in the fight against global warming and took the opportunity to seek compensation for the populations who live thanks to the forests.

“We have extended the issue in the face of climate change by insisting on our position as a Solution Country on climate change issues and the solidarity that we must have. We come in solidarity to the world because we bring our forests, our peatlands to achieve decarbonization and cushion the warming of the earth’s climate. But beyond that, we are asking for compensation for the populations who are forced to deprive themselves of these forests from which they live all day. And therefore this solidarity to have compared to the funds that were to be made available to non-polluting countries and which contribute to maintaining the temperature”, he underlined.
