The DRC Chamber of Mines sensitizes companies to participate in the EITI workshop to improve the information quality in their reports

In her opening remarks, Bernadette Mpundu Mpia, Coordinator of the Chamber of Mines of the Federation of Enterprises of Congo (FEC), sensitized companies to participate in the workshop to strengthen the focal points of provincial and territorial financial authorities as well as extractive companies organized by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (ITIE-RDC) in the city of Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga.

According to Bernadette Mpundu, this activity is very important because it is part of the preparation for the imminent declarations of the data which will be used to draw up the EITI Reports to be produced and published in 2022″.

As a result, it has sensitized companies to participate in these meetings. “The Chamber of Mines would like to make all companies aware of their active participation in EITI reporting to further improve the quality of the information contained in EITI Reports and meet the requirements of the EITI standard, those relating to completeness, reliability, disaggregation of data as well as the commitment of companies in terms of participation in the declaration and the improvement of the implementation of the EITI process in the DRC. declared.

This workshop is also a way to remobilize companies after nearly three years without training due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Many events have occurred within companies since 2019. Changes have occurred in some companies affecting the administrative position of certain focal points. In addition, Covid 19 and the absence of training for almost three years have undoubtedly caused a certain weariness or even torpor in most focal points, thus risking compromising the next declaration. It is therefore imperative to remobilize you by holding this kind of workshop,” explained the coordinator of the chamber of mines.

She also announced that the Chamber of Mines and the DRC EITI will organize conferences next October to “highlight and comment on the level of transparency that the DRC will have achieved following the evaluation that is underway. by the Board of Directors”.
