Tshisekedi – Russia and China’s Transparency Surpasses the West
China and Russia continue to gain prominence over the West in Africa, a trend that has been accentuated in recent times. The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, recently shared his perspective on why Eastern influence is surpassing Western influence in the continent, particularly in the DRC, citing the conduct of the parties involved.
According to a report by the Russian newspaper Sputnik, President Tshisekedi highlighted the ease of doing business with Russia and China compared to the West.
He emphasized that Russia and China engage with the DRC without arrogance or attempts to lecture, treating the country with more respect than Western counterparts.
Tshisekedi emphasized the DRC’s right to cultivate friendly ties with Russia, drawing parallels with France’s relations with Israel despite disagreements.
He asserted that Africa should not be judged for its choice of friends, advocating for mutual respect in international relations.
The president noted that China and Russia operate as transparent partners, contrasting them with the West’s perceived duplicity. He expressed confidence that China and Russia would emerge as preferred partners.
Recent surveys corroborate Tshisekedi’s observations, indicating that China and Russia enjoy higher approval ratings than the United States in Africa.
While the US had a 56% approval rating in 2023, China and Russia garnered 58% and 64%, respectively, signaling a shifting geopolitical landscape.
Globally, the United States’ approval rating remains below 50%, with a simultaneous increase in disapproval ratings, as reported by the American consulting agency Gallup.
