We have reviewed the Zambian mining sector regime – HH

We have reviewed the mining sector regime in order to encourage more investment and increase the participation of Zambians in the mineral value chain.

We are in the process of re-opening the Mining Cadastre Department and floating bids for the blocked mining rights to companies which are wholly or partly owned by Zambians.

Furthermore, we will restrict to only five, the number of mining rights any entity or company can own.

This will ensure that international companies wishing to acquire mining rights, partner with Zambians or companies owned by Zambians.

In addition, we are pushing for the use of ICT and digitalization in the conduct of business, to avoid human error and unnecessary bureaucracy, amongst other measures. This will improve the ease of doing business in the sector.

We are calling on our citizens to take full advantage of these opportunities being opened.

Hakainde Hichilema

President of the Republic of Zambia
