Zambia Cabinet Approves Handover of Kasumbalesa Border to ZRA

The Cabinet has given approval for the management of the Vehicle Traffic Management System at Kasumbalesa Border Facility, along with other supporting infrastructure, to be handed over to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

This decision was made due to the Concession Agreement between the Government and the Zambia-I.P-Border Crossing Company (ZIPBCC) which expired on March 3rd, 2023.

According to Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA, the transfer of the Kasumbalesa Border Post to ZRA will enable the Government to take control of the border facility’s operations and increase revenue collection for various developmental programs.

As the Kasumbalesa border has become a significant crossing point for cross-border businesses, special attention is required to ensure its smooth operation in the future.

The Government and ZIPBCC signed a Concession Agreement for Kasumbalesa Border Post on July 1st, 2009, which was to Design, Build, Operate, and Transfer. The ZIPBCC began operating the border facility in March 2011.

Furthermore, Ms. KASANDA announced that the Cabinet has approved several activities to be held during the 2023 National Youth week, including an exhibition by youth entrepreneurs and innovations and the National Youth Indaba.

This is also intended to encourage youth participation in the development of the country.
