Zambia Positions Itself as Emerging Hub for Car Battery Manufacturing Investment

Zambia Attracts Global Interest in Car Battery Manufacturing After GBA Meeting in Brussels

The Permanent Secretary for Investment and Industrialisation in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Crucivia Hachikumba, says Zambia is well positioned to attract increased investment in car battery manufacturing.

This follows Zambia’s successful presentation of its favourable investment climate and strategic role in the global battery value chain at the 2025 Global Battery Alliance Annual General Meeting, held in Brussels, Belgium, from December 9 to 10.

Mr. Hachikumba revealed that Zambia’s Regional Battery Value Chain initiative was recognised during the meeting as a significant contributor to economic integration in Sub-Saharan Africa. He noted that the recognition reflects growing international confidence in Zambia’s industrialisation agenda and its potential within the electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

He explained that Zambia’s participation in the Global Battery Alliance provided an important platform to adopt international best practices and attract responsible, sustainable investment.

Mr. Hachikumba reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining a stable, secure, and investor-friendly environment, supported by a range of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.

The Permanent Secretary made the remarks during a high-level roundtable discussion titled Mapping the Policy Landscape, which brought together global stakeholders to examine policy frameworks shaping the battery and electric vehicle industries.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to Belgium, Mary Chirwa, highlighted the role of Zambia’s diplomatic missions in facilitating partnerships with international investors.

She said the Embassy continues to engage potential partners interested in working with Zambia within the European Union and the Organisation of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States, reinforcing the country’s economic diplomacy efforts.
