Zambian President Directs ZESCO to Develop Income for Kafue Gorge Communities
President Hakainde Hichilema has instructed Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) to create investments that will provide revenue for the communities living around the Kafue Gorge Lower Power Station in Chikankata District.
He stated that the individuals in the region should be rewarded through developmental projects since they have safeguarded the environment, allowing for the establishment of the electricity generation investment.
And His Excellency acknowledged the traditional leaders in the area for their leadership in preserving the environment. He made the remarks at a meeting with Traditional Leaders from Lusaka and Southern Provinces, held during the Kafue Gorge Lower-KGL- Power Station’s final turbine commissioning ceremony.
The President will also inaugurate a 12-Mega Watts Mini Plant located at the Gorge’s base, which uses water that flows back into the Kafue River from the main Plant.
