Zambia Mineral Mapping Survey 52.8% Complete, Unlocking Copper, Cobalt, Lithium, and Nickel Investment Opportunities
Zambia’s nationwide aerial mineral mapping survey has reached 52.8% completion, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to unlock its mineral potential and attract new investment.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga M. Kabeta highlighted that the high-resolution airborne geophysical survey is modernizing Zambia’s geological database and opening new opportunities for mineral exploration, especially in under-explored regions.
Dr. Kabeta emphasized that the survey is a cornerstone of the Government’s strategy to position Zambia as a leading destination for mining investment.
Beyond its extensive copper reserves, Zambia is rich in critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, and nickel, all vital to the global energy transition.
The Permanent Secretary made these remarks during a courtesy call from the Swiss Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Stéphane Rey, at the Ministry headquarters on 23 January 2026.
He noted that Zambia’s stable policies, transparency, and strong protection of private investment make the country attractive to both large- and small-scale mining ventures.
Dr. Kabeta added that the Government is actively strengthening partnerships with reputable mining firms to accelerate exploration, promote value addition, facilitate technology transfer, and ensure sustainable mining practices that benefit local communities.
Ambassador Rey expressed optimism about Zambia’s investment prospects, highlighting the country’s strategic location, abundant natural resources, and growing economy as key draws for Swiss investors.
He also mentioned an upcoming visit by the Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Ms. Helene Budliger Artieda, which is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Zambia and Switzerland.
The Ministry confirmed that the completion of the aerial mapping survey will provide critical data to guide investment decisions and support the long-term development of Zambia’s mining sector.
