Zambia’s Finance Minister Arrives in South Africa for Mining Indaba 2025
Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, has arrived in South Africa for the 2025 Investing in African Mining Indaba, set to take place from February 3 to 6 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Dr. Musokotwane will represent President Hakainde Hichilema at the high-profile event, which is themed “Future-proofing African Mining, Today.” The summit will focus on sustainability, investment, and economic growth in Africa’s mining sector.
He is joined by Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe, Mines Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali, senior government officials, and private sector representatives. Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Inonge Mwenya, welcomed the delegation upon arrival.
During the conference, Dr. Musokotwane will engage in bilateral and sideline meetings with potential investors and key industry stakeholders to promote Zambia’s mining sector and economic agenda.
The 2025 Mining Indaba will gather over 8,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, including 1,200 investors, 700 mining companies, and at least 25 government ministers. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on February 3.
For Zambia, the event is a strategic opportunity to showcase its ambitious plan to boost copper production to 3 million tonnes annually by 2032, a significant increase from the current 800,000 tonnes.
The African Mining Indaba remains a premier platform for investment discussions, networking, and policy deliberations, aimed at driving sustainable mining practices and unlocking Africa’s mineral potential.
