ZEMA Approves $627 Million in Development Projects to Drive Sustainable Growth
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has approved 115 development projects with a combined investment value of $627 million, following the 33rd Environmental Assessment Committee (EAC) meeting held in June 2025.
The approved projects span key sectors crucial to Zambia’s economic advancement, including mining (51 projects), mineral processing (22), infrastructure development (18), manufacturing and processing (17), and agriculture, forestry, and tourism (7).
The approvals highlight the country’s continued focus on inclusive and environmentally responsible development.
Among the major projects greenlit is the construction of a ZAMMSA Regional Medical Warehouse in Kabwe.
This facility is expected to significantly expand medical storage capacity and improve the healthcare supply chain in Central Province.
Another major development is the K739 million upgrade of Mansa Airport’s infrastructure, which aims to enhance air transport services in Luapula Province—boosting regional connectivity and spurring economic activity.
ZEMA emphasized its dedication to balancing development with environmental protection.

She referenced the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 as the foundation of ZEMA’s regulatory efforts.
The agency also stressed that all approved projects will undergo continuous environmental compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to national environmental and sustainability standards.
