ZESCO’s Chisamba Solar Project Hits Key Milestones in Zambia’s Energy Shift

ZESCO’s 100-megawatt solar project in Chisamba is making steady progress as part of Zambia’s broader strategy to diversify its energy supply and build a more climate-resilient energy system.

Located in Kafungalubala village, within Chief Chaamuka’s area in Chisamba district, the project is a significant step towards reducing Zambia’s reliance on hydroelectric power.

As of August 3, 2024, substantial progress has been made on the project. A total of 120 hectares of land has been cleared, fencing has been installed, and the main access road to the plant has been constructed.

Work on the drainage system is ongoing, and the excavation for the photovoltaic field transformer foundation is complete, with concrete poured for the foundation columns.

Funded by Kariba North Bank Extension Power Corporation, a subsidiary of ZESCO, the project has already created 230 jobs, contributing to local employment and economic growth.
