World: up, the ton of tin goes from 43,375.00 USD to 44,448.00 USD this week
According to projections by experts from the National Commission for Mercurial Prices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the price of tin should experience a significant increase on the international market for the period from April 18 to 23, 2022.
According to this table of prices of mining export products from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) the ton of tin should trade at 44,448.00 USD this week against 43,375.00 USD the same quantity the week last.
Tin thus records a positive price margin of around 1,073 USD during this period under analysis on the international market.
If the general price trend of mining products exported from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the international market is currently upward, it should however be noted that two main mining products exported from the DRC, in particular copper and cobalt, should register a slight drop in price during this period.
According to the National Mercurial Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Trade,
these products should trade respectively at 81,559.00 USD per ton per cobalt this week against 81,579.00 USD last week, a slight drop in price of -20 USD and at 10,281.00 USD per ton this week against 10,331.95 USD per ton last week, ie a drop in price of around -50.95 USD.
On the London Metals Exchange, the spot price of tin was around 43,313.50 USD on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. It even peaked at over 44,400 USD per tonne last February. its highest level for more than a year.
According to a recent analysis note from Fitch Solutions, this upward trend should last a few more months.
Since the end of 2020, the price of tin has more than doubled in a context marked by an increase in demand.
If Namibia and the DRC, the two main African producers, benefit, more investment in local processing will generate more gains.
Tin is indeed used mainly to solder electronic components, but car manufacturers also use it in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.
