China to Build Solar Power Plant in Zambia’s Kasempa District
The Chinese government has announced plans to construct a solar power plant in Kasempa District, North-Western Province, Zambia, this year.
The project aims to supply electricity to Chinese-owned mines in the area, reducing the impact of load management challenges on mining operations.
Chinese Deputy Ambassador to Zambia, Wang Sheng, emphasized his country’s interest in exploring investment opportunities in North-Western Province, particularly in the mining, energy, and agriculture sectors.
Speaking during a meeting with North-Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu, Mr. Sheng highlighted plans to establish not only the solar power plant in Kasempa but also a milling plant in Solwezi District.
In response, Minister Lihefu reaffirmed the Zambian government’s commitment to supporting investors interested in contributing to the province’s development.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that economic progress reaches every corner of the country, aligning with Zambia’s broader developmental goals.
The solar power plant represents a significant step toward addressing energy supply challenges in Kasempa while fostering economic growth in North-Western Province.
With collaborative efforts between the Zambian government and Chinese investors, the initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development and energy security.
