Tazama Pipelines Enhances Diesel Flow with New Drag Reducing Agent
Tazama Pipelines has introduced a drag reducing agent (DRA) to improve the efficiency and flow of diesel through its network. This chemical reagent reduces friction within the pipeline, enhancing the movement of gasoil.
As a result, the daily diesel pumping capacity has increased from 2.8 million liters to 3.6 million liters.
Speaking at the launch event in Dar es Salaam, Energy Minister Makoso Chikote emphasized that this project highlights the commitment of both the Zambian and Tanzanian governments to reforming the petroleum sector. He added that the use of the drag reducing agent will ease the pressure on the energy sector by improving diesel transportation efficiency.
Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Felchesmi Mramba expressed his government’s willingness to continue collaborating with Tazama to enhance the operations of the Tanzania-Zambia Mafuta Pipeline (TAZAMA).
Tazama Board Chairperson Peter Mumba revealed that the project, which cost $900,000, was fully funded by Tazama. Managing Director Davison Thawethe noted that all trials conducted by local engineers from Zambia and Tanzania were successful, confirming that the implementation of the new system could proceed.
