DRC: Alphamin Resources achieves record production of 2,898 tonnes of tin in Q4 2020
The mining company Alphamin, located in Mpama Nord in the province of North Kivu, achieved a record production of 2,898 tonnes of tin in the fourth quarter of 2020, indicates a press release relayed by Mining News Pro. This represents a 13% improvement from the previous quarter and exceeds the company’s market forecast of 2,600 to 2,800 tonnes.
According to Alphamin, this performance is due to better than expected tin feed qualities and plant recoveries. The processing plant recorded an average recovery of 74% for the quarter, including a record 77% recovery achieved in December 2020.
However, quarterly sales declined by 14% due to extreme seasonal rains which impacted the condition of export routes. Weather stations along the export route reported rainfall above 159% of the long-term average.
“The short dry season (January-March) allows for road maintenance and already road conditions are improving, and we expect to recover the majority of the quarter’s sales deficit in the first quarter of 2021,” said the company in a press release.
Alphamin plans to increase annualized production of contained tin from the current level of 11,000 tonnes to 13,000 tonnes in the near term. This increase is expected from July 2021 following the commissioning of the fine tin recovery plant, 70% complete, and an expected increase of 5 to 10% in ore volumes processed.
Based on this, the company expects contained tin production of 5,500 tonnes in the first half of 2021, then 6,500 tonnes in the second half of 2021, which would meet its annualized production target of 13,000 tonnes. thereafter.
It should be noted that the company Alphamin has planned two drilling campaigns on the adjacent Mpama Sud deposit, the first of which would lead to a first estimate of mineral resources during the second quarter of 2021.
