Inga III project: “A 4th buyer who will consume 4,000 MW has been added and will invest $ 6 billion” (ADPI)

The Inga III project is getting closer and closer to its realization. During an interview with 7SUR7.CD this Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the head of state’s official in charge of the Agency for the Development and Promotion of the Grand Inga Project (ADPI-RDC), Bruno Kapandji Kalala, said that a fourth buyer of electricity has been added to the three already existing.

It is, he said, a Chinese company that works in the field of aluminum. According to Bruno Kapandji, this company will invest 6 billion USD in the DRC and proposes to consume 4,000 MW.

” The Inga III project is no longer a dream. It is a reality because the buyers are there. There is a fourth buyer who has just been added. It is a Chinese company that will invest 6 billion USD and is going to produce one million tonnes of aluminium. This company will consume four thousand MW, “he said.

Bruno Kapandji indicated that this Chinese company is added to the list of three others already existing, namely the National Electricity Company (SNEL), a mining company and South Africa.

He recalled that the Inga III project was the subject of feasibility studies for which calls for tenders were regularly launched.

At the end of this call for tenders, two Chinese and Spanish consortia won the market. From these two consortia was created a single operator called Inga III.

The head of state in charge of ADPI’s mission officer gave this interview to the press after a courtesy visit to the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARE) headed by the engineer Sandrine Mubenga.
