Khoemacau Advances Expansion to More Than Double Copper Production
Khoemacau Targets 130,000 Tonnes of Annual Copper Production as Expansion Advances
Khoemacau Copper Mining is making steady progress on its expansion programme, which aims to more than double annual copper production to 130,000 tonnes of copper in concentrate, alongside more than four million ounces of silver annually.
According to the company’s Second Quarter 2026 Production Report, construction advanced during the quarter, with progress recorded across engineering, procurement and site development.
Key milestones included the completion of foundation backfilling in the milling area and excavation work in the flotation area, while bulk earthworks and boxcut development remained on schedule.
The expansion includes a new processing plant with a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum, as well as the extension of mining operations into the Zone 5 North, Mango and Zeta North-East deposits.
First concentrate production from the expanded operation is targeted for the first half of 2028. Khoemacau expects the mine to maintain a competitive life-of-mine average C1 cash cost of below US$1.60 per pound, subject to silver prices and other planning assumptions.
Looking beyond the current expansion, the company is assessing a further growth phase that could increase annual copper production to 200,000 tonnes.
Khoemacau has commenced a pre-feasibility study to evaluate the technical, economic and development options for this next stage of expansion.
The plans underscore Khoemacau’s long-term growth strategy and could further strengthen Botswana’s position as an important copper producer in Africa.
