Maniema Accounts for More Than Half of DRC’s Artisanal Gold Production
DRC Artisanal Gold Output Rises 10% as Maniema Leads National Production
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s artisanal gold production reached 1,404.06 kg in the first half of 2026, up 10.32% from 1,272.76 kg recorded during the same period in 2025, according to data from the Technical Coordination and Planning Unit of the Ministry of Mines (CTCPM).
Maniema was the country’s largest producer, accounting for 748.37 kg, or 53.3% of total artisanal gold production during the period.
It was followed by Ituri, which produced 171.67 kg, representing 12.23% of national artisanal output.
National production declined during the second quarter, falling to 664.64 kg from 739.43 kg in the first quarter, a 10.1% decrease.
The CTCPM noted that the decline reflected differing production trends across provinces.
The latest figures reinforce Maniema’s growing importance to the DRC’s artisanal gold sector. In April, the Ministry of Mines said the province accounted for nearly 40% of national artisanal gold production, highlighting the increase recorded in the first half of 2026.
The DRC recorded total artisanal gold production of 2,320.22 kg in 2025, according to the CTCPM data.
