One Road Initiative Advances Green Energy Collaboration in DRC

The One Belt, One Road project, initiated by President Xi Jinping in 2013, aims to rejuvenate ancient trade routes connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa, fostering global economic development through international cooperation.

Recognizing the imperative of transitioning to sustainable energy amid climate challenges, renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydropower emerge as critical priorities within the project.

By embracing clean technologies, participating nations can curb carbon emissions, generate green jobs, and foster sustainable economic growth.

During the third International Cooperation Summit Forum on October 18, 2023, President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of cooperation in green energy sectors, announcing initiatives to bolster collaboration and establish a dialogue mechanism for the photovoltaic industry.

A groundbreaking Smart PV project, signed on March 24, 2024, at CNMHK headquarters, marks a significant milestone in addressing power shortages, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) mining sector.

By harnessing abundant solar resources in Lubumbashi, the project aims to provide substantial electricity output, reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

This consortium’s commitment aligns with President Félix Tshisekedi’s national electrification objectives and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. With advanced technologies and reliable cooperation, the project paves the way for resilient green energy promotion.

Chen Zhimin, Chairman of CNMHK, and Wang Fangqing, Managing Director of SDCC, signed the partnership project, underscoring the commitment to innovative collaboration for green energy advancement along the One Belt, One Road initiative.

Zhang Jingtao, Chairman of SDCC, highlighted the partnership’s potential to drive fruitful cooperation in green energy, while Chen Zhimin emphasized CNMHK’s dedication to innovation and sharing, promoting flexible and efficient energy production through the Smart PV project.
