Zambia’s Sunion Investments Sets Industry Benchmark with High Compliance in Copper Processing
The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has commended Sunion Investments Limited for upholding exceptional standards of compliance at its copper processing plant in Kasempa, North-Western Province.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, leading a delegation of officials from the Cabinet Office and Provincial Administration, conducted a thorough inspection of the facility to evaluate adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
The plant was found to consistently meet industry standards. Inspectors highlighted proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by workers, as well as a well-managed copper thickening and storage section. The facility produces copper cathodes with a purity of up to 99.9%.
Dr. Kabeta praised Sunion Investments’ diligence and transparency in reporting production figures through official government channels, describing the company’s practices as a model for the sector.
“We are pleased with what we have observed. This company meets most operational and safety requirements and has set a high benchmark for other processors in the district.
We encourage them to continue leading the way to elevate standards across the entire industry,” Dr. Kabeta stated.
Guided by Plant Supervisor Ms. Karen Kamanga, the inspection also highlighted the company’s strong commitment to worker safety and environmental management.
The Ministry emphasized that compliance of this nature is vital to strengthening Zambia’s mining sector and promoting responsible resource development.
