Zambia’s Ministry of Mines Launches Revolutionary Self-Service Online Mining Cadastre System

In a groundbreaking move towards modernization and efficiency in the mining sector, the Government of the Republic of Zambia, under the leadership of the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, has introduced the Self-Service Online Mining Cadastre System (SSOMCS).

Unveiled at the Hilton Hotel in Kinshasa on December 11, 2023, this digital platform marks a significant step in streamlining mining license applications and processes.

Developed in partnership with Smart Zambia and the Spatial Dimension Team, SSOMCS offers a user-friendly online platform to streamline mining license applications and management.

Dr. Hapenga M. Kabeta, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, highlighted the system’s transformative potential for the sector.

This innovative solution not only provides various services, such as secure payments and document uploads, but also aligns with Zambia’s socio-economic development goals outlined in the Eighth National Development Plan.

The SSOMCS’s introduction marks a significant shift, aiming to eliminate geographical barriers, reduce operational costs, and enhance transparency and efficiency in licensing procedures.

With Phase One successfully completed, the government anticipates finalizing Phase Two by March 31, 2024, integrating additional payment options via the Government Service Bus (GSB).

Starting December 18, 2023, all mining license applications will solely utilize the online platform, signifying a monumental leap towards a more technology-driven and prosperous mining landscape, fostering national development.

For further information or inquiries, stakeholders and applicants are encouraged to contact the Ministry Headquarters at the Government Complex or the Mining Cadastre Department in Ridgeway Area.

The launch of the Self-Service Online Mining Cadastre System underlines Zambia’s commitment to nurturing a dynamic and efficient mining industry, significantly contributing to the nation’s vision for sustainable socio-economic growth and prosperity.
