The Governement of DRC Reduces Fuel Pump Price by 10-20%
The government of DRC reduces fuel pump prices ranging between 10% – 20%. Acacia Bandubola Mbongo, Minister of the National Economy, signed decrees on Tuesday (May 5th) to reduce the price of petroleum products throughout the country. This new pricing is applicable as of Thursday, May 7.
The government, in the minutes of the Council of Ministers on Monday, May 4, announced that it had reached a compromise with the tankers for the lower price of fuel at the pump following the global price drop due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The reduction of the order of 20% or 2200 FC to 1980 FC and applicable as soon as the decree was signed by the Minister of the National Economy.
“Following the sharp downward trend in price by petroleum suppliers since the Covid-19 pandemic, discussions have been initiated with oil professionals and all sector ministers involved in the price review. From these negotiations, the government was able to obtain a 20% reduction in the pump price, from 2,200 FC per litre to 1,980 FC, applicable as soon as the order was signed,” the document states.
The order of the Ministry of Economy is therefore expected. The current fuel price was stopped in November 2018. A surge occurred a month and a half after the first increase in the price due to the 10% increase in the international price.
