Barrick Signs Earn-In Agreement for Ontario Pen Gold Project
Barrick Expands Canadian Gold Portfolio with Pen Gold Project Earn-In Deal
Barrick Mining has signed an earn-in agreement with Champion Electric Metals to acquire an interest in the Pen Gold project in Ontario, Canada, strengthening its exploration portfolio in the country.
Under the agreement, Barrick will have the opportunity to earn up to a 75% interest in the project by completing exploration expenditures and making other agreed payments over the earn-in period.
The Pen Gold project covers approximately 12,000 hectares in the prolific Swayze greenstone belt, an area with established gold potential and proximity to several major mining operations.
Barrick will initially fund exploration work to earn an initial interest in the project. Further expenditure commitments would allow the company to increase its ownership to the maximum 75% interest, subject to the terms of the agreement.
The partnership gives Champion Electric access to Barrick’s technical expertise and exploration capabilities while providing Barrick with exposure to additional gold exploration ground in Ontario.
The agreement forms part of Barrick’s broader strategy of strengthening its mineral resource pipeline through targeted exploration and partnerships, particularly in established mining jurisdictions.
Ontario remains one of Canada’s most important gold-producing regions, supported by extensive geological infrastructure, skilled mining expertise and a long history of successful exploration and mine development.
For Champion Electric, bringing Barrick into the project provides an opportunity to accelerate exploration and evaluate the Pen Gold property’s potential at a scale that would be difficult to achieve through standalone exploration.
The companies will now advance exploration activities aimed at identifying and defining gold mineralisation across the project area.
The deal highlights continued interest from major mining companies in Ontario’s gold exploration sector, as producers seek to replenish resources and build future project pipelines amid sustained demand for the precious metal.
