DRC Produced More Than 12.3 Million Megawatts Of Electricity As Of November 2022
The production of electricity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) saw a slight increase over the eleven months of 2022, according to the Central Bank of Congo’s (BCC) latest report.
The total volume of electricity produced in the DRC reached approximately 12.3 million megawatts at the end of November 2022, slightly higher than the level recorded during the same period in 2021.
The BCC’s statistical data shows that electricity production in the DRC was just over 12 million megawatts at the end of November 2021. For the entire year of 2021, electricity production in the DRC is estimated to have been around 12.1 million megawatts.
It’s important to recognize that despite having significant energy potential, the Democratic Republic of Congo is among the least electrified countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Only about 10% of the Congolese population has access to electricity, with 35% in urban areas (50% in Kinshasa) and less than 1% in rural areas.
