DRC Reopens Mining Cadastre for New Mining and Exploration Licence Applications
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reopened its mining cadastre to new applications for mining rights and exploration quarry permits, following the completion of a major review of its cadastral records.
The Mining Cadastre (CAMI) announced that its application window reopened on August 4, allowing individuals and companies to submit new applications after a temporary suspension that began in June.
The suspension was introduced to allow CAMI to clean up and improve the cadastral database, with the aim of strengthening the accuracy of mining records and improving the management of mining and exploration areas.
With applications now being accepted again, CAMI has advised prospective applicants to consult the cadastral map before submitting their files.
The online cadastral map is available free of charge and allows applicants to verify whether their preferred areas are available.
The process is intended to reduce overlapping applications and potential conflicts between mining rights.
CAMI has also reminded applicants to comply fully with the requirements of the DRC’s mining legislation when preparing and submitting their applications.
The reopening restores the normal process for registering new mining rights and exploration quarry applications and provides companies and investors with renewed access to available mining areas across the country.
