DRC rallies Mining Investors in Toronto for Battery Factory project

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to mobilize investors around the world to materialize the construction project of the electronic battery factory in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A strong Congolese delegation from the Congolese Ministry of Industry is taking part in the twenty-first annual seminar on investment and mining in Africa organized by the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce.

It is in this context that the representative of the Ministry of Industry, the Director General of the Congolese Battery Council (CCB), Denis Lecouturier, invited Canadian investors and elsewhere to join the Democratic Republic in the materialization the installation of the manufacturing plant for electric battery precursors.

For him, the Democratic Republic of Congo remains the best destination for investors in the mining sector.

“I talked about the energy transition which will, among other things, lead to the conversion to electric batteries in the very near future.

 The DRC has a good part of the minerals that go into the manufacture of these batteries. So we absolutely have to take advantage of this to attract investors who, in partnership with us, will process on site rather than export raw materials. 

“People are reacting positively, a lot of people have their eyes on us. “ said the Director General of the Congolese Battery Council (CCB), Denis Lecouturier.

This project has attracted the attention of several investors, in particular Ecobank, which says it is ready to support the Democratic Republic of Congo in this adventure, announced Serge Bilambo, Director of Ecobank’s Bank of Large Companies.

Denis Lecouturier also indicated that the pre-feasibility studies which augur the effective start of this project will be launched very shortly.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) wants to be the most competitive destination in the world to produce batteries for electric vehicles, highlighting the low cost of investment on its territory.

According to Julien Paluku, who is leading this Congolese government project, the installation of a battery manufacturing plant costs 117 million dollars in the United States, 112 million USD in China, 65 million dollars in Poland. “It is enough to invest only 39 million dollars in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Explains the Minister Julien Paluku.

In short, the cost of setting up an electronic drum manufacturing plant is two to three times lower than in these three other countries mentioned.
