DRC Outlines Bold Vision for Mining Sector at Indaba Breakfast Briefing
The Breakfast Briefing on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the African Mining Indaba marked a pivotal moment for the country’s mining sector.
In the presence of Minister of Mines Kizito Pakabomba, the discussion focused on strengthening governance, diversification, and transparency in the industry.
Minister Pakabomba opened his address by honoring victims of the ongoing conflicts in the eastern DRC and members of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) who have fallen in defense of the nation, observing a minute of silence in their memory.
He then outlined five strategic pillars set to guide the evolution of the Congolese mining sector:
- Diversifying international partnerships to attract investors from around the world.
- Expanding exploration efforts in resource-rich provinces to ensure balanced national development.
- Broadening the range of exploited minerals beyond traditional resources.
- Enhancing value addition by promoting local processing and the production of finished goods.
- Strengthening responsible mining practices through mineral traceability and certification.
Closing the event, the Ministry of Mines emphasized the significance of this dialogue in shaping the future of the DRC’s mining sector. Despite security challenges, the government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace, stability, and responsible mineral exploitation to ensure long-term economic growth.
