ARSP Urges Stronger Local Transformation Agenda at Lualaba Mining Tech Summit
DRC Launches Mining Tech Summit to Boost Local Value, Innovation, and Digital Mining Economy
The Lualaba province in the Democratic Republic of Congo hosted the first edition of the Mining Tech Summit, focusing on mining sovereignty and the integration of technology into the extractive sector.
The event brought together public and private stakeholders to explore ways to modernize and transform the country’s mining industry.
Organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Ministry of SMEs, the Regulatory Authority for Subcontracting in the Private Sector (ARSP), the Lualaba provincial government, and CODES AFRICA, the summit gathered mining companies, digital experts, and innovation leaders.
The goal was clear: accelerate the adoption of technology in natural resource exploitation.
A central theme throughout the discussions was the need to move beyond a traditional model based solely on extraction and export of raw materials.
Stakeholders emphasized the importance of creating local value through industrial transformation, innovation, and skills development.
Magalie Tema Bemba, Director General of CODES AFRICA and initiator of the summit, highlighted the role of technology in strengthening subcontracting.
She noted that digital tools can help local companies evolve from simple service providers into solution-driven businesses capable of generating higher value.
Miguel Kashal Katemb, Director General of ARSP, stressed the urgency of reshaping the country’s economic model.
He reiterated the government’s ambition to transform the DRC into a digital nation by 2030, in line with President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision.
For ARSP, a key priority is increasing the participation of Congolese companies in the mining value chain.
This includes expanding access to contracts for local subcontractors while also enhancing their technical capabilities to meet industry standards.
By participating in the summit, ARSP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a more competitive subcontracting sector one that leverages technology to improve services and contribute more effectively to national economic growth.
