Apple Inc said on Thursday 13th April it would use only recycled cobalt in batteries by 2025 as a part of its efforts to make all its products carbon neutral by the end of the decade. Magnets in Apple devices will use recycled rare earth elements, and in-house designed printed circuit boards will use recycled tin soldering and gold plating, the company said. Non-Ferrous China Africa (NFCA), a subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metals Corporation (CNMC), has reported an annual increase in copper and gold production at its Chambishi-based mine in the Kalulushi district of Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. Copper production rose by more than 5,000 tons from 62,300 tons in 2021 to 67,600 tons in 2022, generating approximately $608 million at an average copper price of $9,000 per ton. After several months of scarcity on the international market, the price of cobalt should record a price increase this week. According to projections by experts from the Commission Nationale des Mercuriiales, a service attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, cobalt should trade at 34,256 USD per tonne this week against 33,556 USD per tonne last week, i.e. a price difference positive of 700 USD.
