The panel consisted of Raphael Khalifa, CEO of Tembo Power, and the Southern African Independent Power Generator (IPP), and Serge Tshitembu, senior advisor to IPP Geosolar Grid. The Zambia Chamber of Mines believes that the government’s attempt to force Copperbelt Energy Corp (CEC) to open up its infrastructure to other power producers has dented the country’s image as an investment destination.   Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa issued a decree last Friday compelling CEC to allow others to transmit electricity via its infrastructure. ZESCO Limited has entered into a long-term power supply agreement with Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) following successful conclusion of negotiations. Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) to discontinue power supply to Konkola Copper Mines

Zambia’s Copperbelt Energy Corp (CEC) will stop supplying power to Vedanta’s local unit Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) from Monday, it said after talks on an extension to their supply agreement broke down over debt owed to CEC. Zambia’s Energy Minister Mathew Nhkuwa told Reuters that KCM would now receive its power directly from state-owned utility Zesco, which has previously sold electricity to CEC for onward supply to KCM.
