German Delegation Explores Strategic Mining Partnerships in DRC’s Copperbelt

German Business Delegation Visits Lubumbashi to Strengthen Mining Partnerships and Investment Opportunities in the DRC

A German business delegation has visited Lubumbashi to explore new partnership opportunities in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining sector, highlighting growing international interest in one of the world’s most important sources of copper, cobalt and other critical minerals.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen economic cooperation between Germany and the DRC while identifying areas for collaboration across the mining value chain.

Discussions focused on investment opportunities, technology transfer, industrial development and support services linked to the country’s expanding mining industry.

Lubumbashi, the economic hub of the DRC’s mining region, continues to attract global attention as demand for critical minerals rises worldwide.

Copper and cobalt from the DRC play a central role in the global energy transition, supplying key materials used in electric vehicles, battery manufacturing and renewable energy technologies.

During engagements with Congolese stakeholders, members of the German delegation explored opportunities to establish partnerships with local companies, strengthen technical cooperation and support the development of sustainable mining practices.

The discussions also examined opportunities for value addition, skills development and industrialization within the country.

The visit reflects Germany’s increasing interest in securing reliable and responsible mineral supply chains as European countries seek to reduce supply risks and strengthen access to strategic raw materials needed for advanced manufacturing and green energy technologies.

Congolese officials and industry representatives used the meetings to showcase the country’s mining potential, ongoing reforms and opportunities for foreign investment across exploration, processing, logistics and mining services.

Beyond mineral extraction, discussions reportedly emphasized the importance of developing local processing capacity to enable the DRC to capture greater value from its mineral resources.

Beneficiation and industrial development remain central priorities for the Congolese government as it seeks to transform the mining sector into a broader engine of economic growth.

The engagement also highlighted the role of international partnerships in supporting technology transfer, workforce development and infrastructure investment, all of which are considered essential for sustaining long-term growth in the mining industry.

As global competition for critical minerals intensifies, the DRC continues to strengthen relationships with international partners seeking access to the country’s vast mineral wealth.

The visit by the German delegation signals growing confidence in the country’s mining sector and could pave the way for new investment initiatives and commercial partnerships in the years ahead.
