Over 356 Mining rights were granted in DRC from 2020 to May 2022

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has granted 356 mining rights from 2020 to May 31, 2022.

This is shown by the statistical data from the survey conducted by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (ITIE-DRC) during the period mentioned above.

According to this report, for the year 2020, already marked by the effects of Covid-19, the Congolese State granted 92 mining rights. These will greatly increase in 2021 when the Congolese Government will grant a total of 205 rights.

For the first five months of 2022, 52 mining rights were granted, indicates the same report of the Initiative for transparency in the extractive industries sectors.

With regard to the mining rights validated by the State during this period, this document indicates that in 2020, 1,855 titles were validated against 1,730 titles in 2021.

For the first five months of 2022, the EITI has listed 1,347 mining rights validated by the Congolese government.

During the same period, the province of Lualaba had more mining rights granted, i.e. 36 titles in 2022, 48 for the whole year 2021 and 13 titles as of May 31, 2022.

On the other hand, the provinces of Bas-Uélé, Kasaï and that of Lomami did not count any granted mining rights.
