PDAC 2023 Launches Amid Critical Minerals Scramble

PDAC 2023 kicks off amid critical minerals scramble: This year’s Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention officially began on 5th march Sunday morning, following a year that has seen the #miningsector attract a new level of attention from governments, #automakers, #battery#manufacturers and more.

During the opening ceremony, Julie Dabrusin, parliamentary secretary to the federal minister of natural resources, highlighted how the commitment of 120 countries, including 21 countries from #AFRICA has put the spotlight on #mining.

“I think that after a bit of a hiccup with respect to the markets, things have turned,” #PDAC President Alex Christopher said. “Pricing is in good shape, and I think in general we have a really exciting five to 10 years ahead of us here in the minerals industry.”

AFRICA is well represented with 21 African countries, mining companies and service providers exhibiting at the #MineAfrica pavilion at booths 923 and 938 in the South Building of the Metro #Toronto Convention Centre. Be sure to drop by.

Exhibitors include:

Ariab Mining Company, ARSP – the Regulatory Authority for Subcontracting in the Private Secotr (DRC), Budee Solutions, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries of Burkina Faso, Chad Ministry of Mines and Geology, DRC Ministry of Mines, Ecobank, Elephant Trade, Ethiopian Airlines, Guinea Ministry of Mines & Geology, Mali Ministry of Mines, Energy & Water, Mauritania Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, MineAfrica, Minerals Council South Africa, Sonamines (National Mining Company of Cameroon), Stamico – State Mining Corporation of Tanzania, Sudan Geological Research Authority, Sudan Ministry of Minerals, Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Tanzania Ministry of Minerals, The Canada-Africa Chamber of Business.

This is the first year since 2020 that the PDAC convention is being held live and in its regular March slot. With about 25,000 expected to be in attendance, delegates whose flights into Toronto were delayed because of a major snowstorm on Friday likely preferred last year’s June timing, when about 17,000 people attended.

The PDAC convention continues at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre Mar. 5 to Today March 8.
