Sandvik Advances Integrated Rock Processing Solutions at Electra Mining

Sandvik Showcases Electric Crushers and Integrated Processing Technology at Electra Mining Africa 2026

Sandvik Rock Processing is showcasing its latest crushing, screening and rock processing technologies at Electra Mining Africa 2026, as mining companies increasingly seek to improve productivity while reducing energy consumption, operating costs and environmental impacts.

The company is highlighting a systems-based approach to plant optimisation, with greater focus on improving the performance of complete processing circuits rather than individual pieces of equipment.

Sandvik Rock Processing Vice-President for Sales Africa Tarynn Yatras says discussions with customers at the exhibition, held from September 7 to 11, show growing demand for solutions that address the entire crushing and screening process.

She says every stage of a processing circuit influences the next, meaning improvements in crushing can affect screening efficiency, downstream classification, grinding performance, mineral recovery and overall plant productivity.

The approach is supported by Sandvik’s engineering-to-order (ETO) philosophy, which allows the company to develop solutions around specific ore characteristics, production targets, site conditions and operational requirements.

Rather than relying solely on standardised equipment, Sandvik works with customers to integrate equipment and process design in ways that can improve the performance of existing operations.

This is becoming increasingly important as mining companies seek to increase production from existing infrastructure while facing tighter capital budgets and more complex ore bodies.

Sandvik’s portfolio includes stationary and mobile jaw, cone and impact crushers, vibrating screens, feeders, scalpers, rock breakers and digital process technologies.

The company is also focusing on energy efficiency, particularly in comminution, which remains one of the largest energy consumers in mineral processing.

Improving crushing and screening efficiency can reduce the amount of energy required during downstream grinding while also supporting higher throughput and more stable plant performance.

Digital technologies are further supporting this approach by providing operators with real-time performance data, advanced process monitoring and automation capabilities. These tools can help identify bottlenecks before they affect production and enable more consistent operating conditions.

At Electra Mining Africa, Sandvik is showcasing its fully electric tracked jaw crusher, the UJ443E, and its upgraded CH442 cone crusher.

The UJ443E is designed to provide high productivity with lower energy consumption and simplified maintenance.

It can operate either from an external electricity supply or through its onboard generator set using hydrotreated vegetable oil or diesel.

When connected to an external power supply, the electric crusher can reduce operating costs, extend drivetrain service intervals, minimise refuelling requirements and lower on-site emissions and noise.

Sandvik Rock Processing distributor S&R Enterprises Managing Director Stephen Smith says the company’s electric models can deliver overall cost savings of about 30% to 50%, depending on the application.

Sandvik is also planning to introduce four additional electric products during 2026 as demand for lower-emission processing equipment increases across Africa.

The company’s presence at Electra Mining highlights the growing role of electrification, automation and integrated process design in helping mining operations improve productivity while meeting increasingly stringent efficiency and sustainability requirements.
