DRC Minister of Mines calls on technical and financial partners to respect the mining law

The Minister of Mines, Willy Kitobo, dwelled on the worst forms of child labor and vulnerable people in all sectors of socio-economic life. He told Katebi (20 km from Kolwezi) on Monday that child labor in the mining sector is a multi-sectoral struggle and requires the involvement of everyone, including central and provincial government ministries and all partners in the mining crafts sector.

He called on the technical and financial partners intervening in the artisanal mining sector, to respect the mining law as well as other laws of the country, the ACP learned on Tuesday from this ministry.

To this end, he urged all the participants in the meeting he chaired in Katebi, to come together around a common objective with a view to financing by a special fund to be created called: “Tolerance Zero children in artisanal mining sites ”. This zero tolerance was recommended in the national sectoral strategy to combat child labor in the artisanal mining sector adopted in August 2017.

The Minister of Mines insisted on the fact that the partners change the way of working and align their actions with the government policy in general and with the mining policy drawn up by the ministry in particular.
