Atomic Eagle Secures Key Regulatory Approvals for Muntanga Uranium Project in Zambia
Atomic Eagle obtains ZEMA approval and resettlement clearance for Zambia’s Muntanga uranium project, advancing development stage
Australian-based uranium developer Atomic Eagle Limited has reached a major regulatory milestone at its flagship Muntanga Uranium Project in Zambia, securing two critical government approvals that significantly advance the project toward development.
The company confirmed that the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has approved the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the project.
In addition, the Office of the Vice President’s Resettlement Division has issued a “No Objection” to the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), clearing a key social and environmental pathway required for project execution.
Together, these approvals reduce one of the most important regulatory uncertainties typically associated with large-scale mining developments, particularly in sensitive environmental and community areas.
For investors, the clearances represent a significant step forward in de-risking the project and improving its development readiness.
Atomic Eagle said the approvals confirm that Zambian regulators have reviewed and accepted the company’s environmental management framework and social impact mitigation measures.
They also validate that the resettlement and livelihood restoration plans meet international standards, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards.
The ESIA was initially submitted in September 2025 and underwent a comprehensive review process involving technical assessments, stakeholder consultations, and site inspections before receiving final approval in June 2026.
With these approvals in place, the company is now positioned to progress toward the construction phase, subject to standard permitting and financing requirements.
The approved development plan outlines open-pit mining operations at the Muntanga and Dibbwi East deposits, supported by a centrally located heap-leach processing facility. The project is designed to include full construction, operational phases, and eventual site rehabilitation.
Located near Lake Kariba, the Muntanga Uranium Project is backed by four mining licences and two exploration licences, covering approximately 1,136 square kilometres along a strike length of about 146 kilometres.
The scale of the licence package highlights its significance within Zambia’s emerging uranium sector.
Recent exploration activity has also shown continued resource growth potential. Atomic Eagle has reported expanded uranium mineralisation at the Chisebuka deposit, part of the broader Muntanga project area, following ongoing drilling results aimed at extending known zones of mineralisation.
With regulatory approvals secured and exploration success continuing, Atomic Eagle is now advancing Muntanga toward its next development phase as Zambia strengthens its position in the global uranium supply landscape.
