Epiroc makes significant safety stride with RCS Collision Avoidance System interface

Epiroc says it recently launched an offering that aims to support safety in underground mining environments with the RCS based Collision Avoidance System (CAS) interface. Proximity Detection System (PDS) suppliers, compliant to the ISO 21815-2 Draft (March 2018), are able to interface with Epiroc RCS Materials Handling TMM (Trackless Mobile Machinery) to enable functionality for slowing and stopping, in what the PDS perceives to be a hazardous or unwanted event, Epiroc explains. Liebherr develops 305 t class T 274 truck; focuses mining business on digitalisation, autonomy & zero emissions

In its just released 2020 report, Liebherr reviewed performance of its major divisions as well as reporting on some product developments and industry trends. The company says that despite the industry’s usual resilience, the global mining industry experienced a downturn in 2020. “This resulted in losses in revenue and profits in the resources industry. It, however, also made the industry focus on future-looking trends, such as increased digitalisation autonomy, and automation.” In the Mining product segment, Liebherr achieved revenues of €964 million, which means a decrease in sales by €105 million, or 9.8%, compared to the… Read More Here

Copper price down on weak China demand, stronger dollar

Copper dipped on Wednesday, hit by signs of weakening demand in top consumer China, while a firmer dollar made greenback-priced metals more expensive to holders of other currencies. Copper for delivery in July was down 1% to $4.615 ($10,153 per tonne) on Wednesday afternoon on the Comex market in New York. Yangshan copper premium fell to $30.50 a tonne, its lowest since February 2016, indicating weakening demand for imported metal into China as high copper prices deterred downstream consumption. The dollar clung to small gains from overnight as a pick-up in… Read More Here

Market fears tighter copper and cobalt supply if DRC enforces concentrate export ban

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has reinstated an export on copper and cobalt concentrates, but will allow mining companies that hold exemptions to continue their shipments. Congo Kinshasa, the world’s largest producer of cobalt and Africa’s largest copper miner, banned concentrate exports in 2013 to encourage miners to process and refine the ore locally. However, insufficient fusion capacity has prompted the Congolese government to issue waivers on several occasions. In August last year, the Mining Ministry granted an unlimited moratorium on all mineral exports, except copper concentrate, pending talks with miners.… Read More Here
