Battery metals projects catch eye of Pension funds and Carmakers

Critical minerals projects are attracting newfound interest from pension funds and automakers to help tackle a looming shortage of battery metals, say some of Canada’s top investment bankers. The rush for metals like lithium, copper and nickel needed to power electric vehicles has “clearly brought the sector into a spotlight that it wasn’t in a few years ago,” Ilan Bahar, global mining co-head at BMO Capital Markets, said during a Monday panel discussion at a mining conference in Toronto. Bank of Montreal’s investment banking business has seen more interest from… Read More Here

How zircon helps Identify Untapped Copper deposits

New research shows that it is possible to mine zircon textures to identify valuable mineral deposits. In a paper published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Chetan Nathwani and his colleagues at Imperial College London explain that zircons are common, hardy minerals that can be found in rocks up to 4 billion years old. Their structure and texture can reflect the conditions in which they formed, earning them a reputation as nature’s time capsules. Knowing this, Nathwani and his team developed a method to distinguish minute differences between zircon grains formed… Read More Here

SA Junior Miners In A Jam

Junior miners struggle to access funding for project development. Without junior miners there would be no mining, large-scale or otherwise. The junior mining sector remains the backbone of the resources sector. Renergen CEO Stefano Marani explains it this way: if a country doesn’t have explorers discovering and upgrading resources, the mining sector in that country dies. “This is analogous to a country with a zero birth rate,” he says. It is therefore imperative to continually invest in exploration, which translates into a strong pipeline of projects for the future, given… Read More Here
