Metso Outotec adds new sizer crusher

Metso Outotec has expanded its range of mobile and modular crushing systems with a new sizer crusher option that has been built for soft ore applications and aggregates. The additions to the Lokotrack line of products have implemented sizer technology from Komatsu. There are five available models, ranging from 500 tonnes per hour to 4,500t/h. Metso Outotec said its newly introduced modular FIT crushing stations are also available with sizer configurations. The first Lokotrack sizer plant, it added, is already online and in operation in southeast Asia. “New concentration technologies… Read More Here
Redefining mine ventilation efficiency and cost savings 2 Equipment & Technology

Redefining mine ventilation efficiency and cost savings

Despite the challenges presented in 2020, TLT-Turbo Africa continues to redefine ventilation for mining operations across the continent. Their customised and pro-active approach to ventilation solutions, combined with their new range of Auxiliary and Booster fans, have provided substantial electrical cost-savings to a major global gold and platinum producer, just 3 months after installing a customised pair of TLT-Turbo Africa’s fans at one of their South African sites. TLT-Turbo Africa was approached by an ultra-deep mining operation located in Gauteng, requiring a recommendation for a suitable fan solution to be… Read More Here

Drone system assisting miners to free space across sites

The application and adaptation of military technology at resources sites has the potential to create operational efficiencies and safer environments.  Freespace Operations is a Victorian based company that began designing and manufacturing innovative drone systems for the defence sector and is now providing similar systems to industry.  The company recently customised its technology to address some of the challenges associated with modern mining, resulting in the production of the Callisto Modular Industrial Multirotor.   The Callisto is an autonomous modular and multipurpose industrial drone with benefits for the resources sector including increased productivity and worker safety.  According… Read More Here

Automatic lubrication system boosts productivity and lowers costs

SANY’s state-of-the-art automatic lubrication system is playing an integral part in increasing production and reducing costs on high-performance sites by ensuring that all the points of the boom and bucket are frequently and correctly lubricated. Brendon Pretorius, Bobcat Earthmoving Equipment’s Service Manager, says that, in addition to reducing wear and tear by maintaining a proper lubrication film, correct and frequent lubrication purges bushings and pins of dust, sand, water and dirt. “Once these contaminants work their way into bushings and pins, they act as a grinding component that reduces the… Read More Here

Underground ADTs feature latest remote control technology

The latest generation Bell B30L and B35L Low Profile Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs) deliver the lowest cost per tonne solution, more practical styling and an ‘autonomous ready’ platform that is easily configurable for remote operation either by a handheld remote control or a more sophisticated autonomous control centre. Bell Equipment Product Designer, Shaun Tucker, explains that making the truck ‘future proof’ was a key design input as “these machines generally have a long life underground and in five years’ time there may be more of a need for autonomous control… Read More Here

Wireless networks key enablers for mining’s transformation

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a social media survey that was asking “Who is driving digital transformation in your company?” The three possible answers given were: “(A) The CEO”, “(B) The CTO” and “(C) COVID-19”. Of course, it was a meme but I’m that sure most of the respondents actually replied with C… In an already volatile and challenging market environment, the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by governments and social distancing rules have forced mining companies to slow down production or put their operations on hold. So, once the corona-crisis is over,… Read More Here

Designed for safety: a new approach to belt conveyors

Conveyors are among the most dynamic and potentially dangerous areas of equipment at a mine or material processing site.  Even though their safety and performance are critical to the operation’s success, the impact of their contribution to overall efficiency is often unrecognized by management and workers alike. Operational basics of belt conveyor systems are too often a mystery to those employees, who have little understanding about the hardware installed and the performance required from the components. The knowledge gap is understandable. The attention of personnel at a mine or coal handling operation… Read More Here

Orica, Epiroc commission blast automation machine

Orica and Epiroc have begun commissioning a machine that will allow an operator to execute the entire underground hard rock development cycle without ever leaving its cab. Orica had announced in November 2019 it entered a partnership with Epiroc to develop a semi-automated explosives delivery system. Called Avatel, the twin boom, semi-autonomous and fully mechanised development charging solution now being commissioned is built on the foundation of Epiroc’s Boomer M2 carrier. It is designed to allow development operations to be carried out without a charge crew having to be exposed at the… Read More Here

Barrick, Sandvik partner for BEV truck trials at Turquoise Ridge

Barrick and Sandvik have entered a partnership agreement for trialing and enhancing battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) for underground hard-rock mining. During a three-year production trial, Sandvik will deploy four Artisan Z50 BEV trucks at the Turquoise Ridge gold mine, part of the Nevada Gold Mines joint venture (JV) between Barrick and Newmont. Nevada Gold Mines is the single largest gold-producing complex in the world, forecast to produce between 3.4 million and 3.65 million ounces of gold during 2020. The Z50 haul truck, with a 50-tonne payload capacity, is a ground-up design that… Read More Here
